National Agriculture Holidays
Looking for more agriculture topics for the month? Here are a few national agriculture holidays to celebrate this November.
National Louisiana Day (Nov. 9)
To celebrate National Louisiana Day, have students research the State Symbols of Louisiana that have a connection to agriculture. Resources for Key State Symbols: Crustacean—Crawfish, Reptile—American Alligator, and Insect—Honeybee.
National Eat a Cranberry Day (Nov. 23)
Ways to celebrate:
1) Read “Time for Cranberries” by Lisl H. Detlefsen: From the cranberry bog to the Thanksgiving table, join Sam and his family as they harvest a classic American fruit.
2) Watch “Cranberry Bounce” — a great video to celebrate Thanksgiving.
National Peanut Butter Lovers Month
Ways to celebrate:
1) Read “In the Garden with Dr. Carver” by Susan Grigsby, a story about Dr. George Washington Carver.
2) Read “PB&J Hooray!” by Janet Nolan, and follow your PB&J sandwich’s amazing journey from farm to table.
